It is important to regularly inspect your washing machine water supply hoses for leaks. One of the top reasons for insurance claims is for water damage caused by leaky washing machine supply lines. Inspect washing machine water supply lines at least annually and replace them every three years if they are plastic. If you notice that the metal ends of your water supply lines are discolored or rusty, replace them immediately.

Faulty washing machine drain hoses are as important as water supply lines when it comes to keeping water off of your floor and in your drain where it belongs. As with supply lines, regularly inspect the ends of your washing machine drain lines for discoloration or rust, and replace them immediately if you find evidence of leaking.

Additionally, check the snugness of the drain lines by using a crescent wrench or a pair of pliers. You should not be able to tighten the line any further if the line is properly tightened. Plastic lines should be replaced every three years.

Here are a few tips!!

1. Use the correct type of detergent

Check that you’re using the right type of detergent for your machine.  High-efficiency machines call for a different type of detergent that is low in suds!  Check the manufacturer’s recommendation.

2.  Don’t overload the machine

All washing machines have a maximum capacity.   Overloading can damage the washing machine.

3. Clean out the lint filter

Remove the lint from your washer to help keep it running efficiently. D

4. Leave the machine door open between loads to help prevent odors and mildew

Leave the washer lid or door open between loads to help dry out the unit and keep it smelling fresh.

5. Replace damaged water hoses

Check the hoses regularly for bulging, cracking, fraying, and leaks around the ends.

6. Don’t squeeze the machine

Washing machines needs some space. At least four inches between the machine and the wall to help prevent hoses from kinking.

9. Make sure the washing machine is level and balanced

A washing machine that’s off kilter can vibrate, rock or walk across the floor during the spin cycle.

10. Drip pans under the machine

Consider putting a drip pan (sometimes called a drain pan) under the machine to help contain small water leaks.
